The initial enquiry came in on 20th April 2023, Sue telephoned to say she was interested in solar PV and battery storage and had been recommended by a friend, whom she had met at a coffee morning. She was happy for the array to be placed wherever it would be most efficient and was very much hoping for a company who would give her guidance and education.

Sue lives in a detached bungalow with no shading from trees with the front of her property facing S/W and the rear facing N/E. She lives alone and generates approximately 1567kWh pa and has a gas combi boiler for her central heating at the moment.

Her main goal was an attempt to be ‘a little greener’, we called to talk her through the process explaining who we are, what to expect from us and the benefits of combining solar PV with battery storage ensuring that any of the solar energy generated is harnessed. This can then be used instead to power her home of drawing power down from the grid. We took the necessary details to provide her with a desk top proposal. Her quote was emailed to her 5 days later, 2 days after that Sue called to ask for a site survey as she was happy with what we had suggested as a solution for her needs.

After the survey there were no adjustments which needed to be made to the initial quote, Sue discussed this with a family member and was encouraged to proceed, her family felt it important that Sue became more self-sufficient ensuring she would not be faced with growing energy bills in the future.

Sue had used British Gas as her electricity and gas supplier but was looking into the benefits of changing to Octopus as their tariffs appeared to be better for her. She was struggling with the Octopus website to find the information she needed, so we located this for her and emailed the details she needed. Sue then transferred to Octopus in preparation for the installation of solar PV and battery storage with an inverter.

Environmental Benefits

Solar has no emissions, it just silently generates pure, clean energy.

Sue accepted the proposal with no changes made and once all her questions were cleared up with Octopus, she was ready to proceed. Sue paid a 25% deposit, and we had her installation booked in within 10 days.

We called her the week before to confirm the date and time we would start. During the installation we worked around the customers schedule as she works from home and had online meetings booked, therefore we ensured that the power was on for the duration of her conference calls.

Sue preferred her battery and inverter to be located in her loft space, this was undertaken with a minimum of disturbance. At the same time our roofing team were installing her panels.

The Predictions

With an initial investment of £5250.00 this system is likely to pay for itself within 5 and half years, giving an estimated net savings of £20,663.00 over the lifetime of they system.

With the addition of environmental benefits which was very important to this customer of 1 ton of CO2 saved each year and over the systems lifetime an equivalent of 210 trees planted, 23 long haul flights avoided, or 32,672 car Km avoided.
